Brenda Wison Scholarship Program

brend wilson and steve francisBrenda Wilson is best described by her children as a woman of sacrifice, truth and unconditional love. She walked in agape love. Brenda made herself strong in order to be strong for those around her. She was a constant source of inspiration, support, and everyone knew that she would lend a helping hand to those in need. It was a tragedy for Steve and his family to lose her at such a young age.

In 2004, to commemorate his mother, Steve created The Brenda Wilson Scholarship Program. Her dedication to his education and her dream for Steve to attend college serves as his inspiration to help underprivileged students overcome financial hurdles so that they may fulfill their dreams.

The Steve Francis Foundation works with the Boys & Girls Clubs each year to distribute applications to active members. Steve strongly believes that his involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs and connection to mentors through the Clubs positively influenced his path in life. Therefore, he places a high value on proven dedication to the community. In addition, qualified applicants must also exude leadership, character, and academic commitment.

Since 2004, thirty (30) scholarships have been awarded in the amount of $10,000 each for a total of $300,000. Francis hosts the Summer Fiesta each year in Houston to raise matching funds for The Scholarship Program. With continued support from the community, The Steve Francis Foundation is devoted to keeping Brenda’s memory alive by awarding The Scholarships for years to come.
